How To Add Image Thumbnail To RSS Feeds

Most of us are building an email list and sending newsletters to the subscribers. But, there’s one hack available to show your post thumbnail on the newsletter. In this post, we are going to show you how can you add image thumbnail to RSS feeds.

Last time, we have shown you how to disable RSS feeds. Before starting this, you need to make sure that you have set a featured image to your posts and custom post types.

How To Add Image Thumbnail To RSS Feeds

First of all, go to your WordPress admin area, and the editor. You need to choose the functions file from there.

Make sure that you are using a WordPress child theme. Now copy the below code.

function rss_post_thumbnail($content) {
global $post;
if(has_post_thumbnail($post->ID)) {
$content = '<p>' . get_the_post_thumbnail($post->ID) .
'</p>' . get_the_content();
}
return $content;
}
add_filter('the_excerpt_rss', 'rss_post_thumbnail');
add_filter('the_content_feed', 'rss_post_thumbnail');

Paste it on the child theme’s functions file and update it.

That’s it. From now on, your post’s featured image will be added to the RSS feed. You can check it by visiting your feed URL or by sending a test newsletter.

By default, WordPress’s feed will be like www.example.com/feed/
