If your WordPress post, page URLs are ugly or in the plain format, you must consider choosing an SEO ready permalinks structure. In this post, we will show you that how can you save permalinks on WordPress and make it SEI ready.
This is a simple task. You don’t need to use any additional plugins or custom codes for it.
How To Save Permalinks On WordPress?
First of all, log in to your WordPress dashboard.
Under settings, you can see the permalinks settings.
When installing a fresh copy of self-hosted WordPress, your permalink structure may be plain.
That’s not SEO ready one. You need to change the structure to something else.
In our blog, we are using a custom structure /%category%/%postname%/. You can go with that structure or choose the post name structure. Both will work well for blogs.
Simply select the URL structure that you need. Here in my case, I wish to go with the post name structure. Update the settings then.
That’s it. You will get a success message soon.
NOTE: If you got already ranked on search engines with the current permalink structure, don’t change the permalink structure. Because, when a user from search engine find your result and come to your WordPress blog, they will see a 404 error page.
Or you need to redirect the old page to the new one. If you linked your articles together in a post (internal linking), you need to edit those links with your new URLs.
